- Prevention of one party “falling in love” and being hurt.
- Prevention of children being born outside of marriage.
- Prevention of families being broken up.
The Evidence
Allah says: “Nor come nigh to adultery”.
Allah says: “Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them.” and says: “And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty.” [Noble Quran 24:30-31]
Allah says: “And when you ask the ladies for anything, ask them from behind a screen. That makes for greater purity for your hearts and for theirs.” [Noble Quran 33:53]
The Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade men and women from being alone together. He said: “Never is a man alone with a woman except that Satan is the third party with them.”
The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said: “Do not enter into the company of women.” A man then asked him: “What about her male in-laws?” The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied: “The in-law is the most dangerous”.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said: “It is better for one of you to be pierced by a steel pin in his head than to touch the hand of a strange woman.”
Allah says: “Be not too complaisant of speech, lest one in whose heart is a disease should be moved with desire: but speak with a speech (that is) proper.” [Noble Quran 33:32].
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Any woman who puts on perfume then goes and passes by some men to let them find her scent is a type of adulteress.” [Musnad Ahmad, Tirmidhi]
Umm Salamah said: “When the Prophet (peace be upon him) completed the prayer, the women would get up to leave. He would then wait awhile before standing.” Ibn Shahab said: “I believe that he waited for a while to give the women an opportunity to depart before the men.” [Sahih al-Bukhari]
It was related in al-Bukhari that women at the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not circumambulate the Ka’bah along with the men. `A’ishah used to go around the Ka’bah at a good distance from the men and avoided mixing with them. Once another woman bade to her to go forward with her so they could touch the corner of the Ka’bah. `A’ishah refused to do so. [Sahih al-Bukhari]
One of `Ayshah’s handmaidens came to her and said: “O Mother of believers, I went around the Ka’bah seven times and touched the corner twice or trice”. `Ayshah replied: “May Allah not reward you for pushing your way through men. It would have been sufficient for you to you to say “Allah Akbar” as you passed by”. [Musnad al-Shafi'i]
Punishment for Zina
In this life
Fornication is 100 lashes
“The male and female who commit fornication -flog each of them with one hundred lashes, and let not compassion for the two of them keep you from complying with Allah’s religion, if you believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a group of believers witness their punishment.” [Noble Quran 24:2]
Adultery is death
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “It is not permitted to shed the blood of any Muslim …. Except in three cases: a soul for a soul, the married person who commits adultery, and the one who forsakes his religion…” [Bukhari and Muslim]
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “When someone commits Zina or drinks wine, Allah removes his faith from him, just as a person takes his shirt off over his head”
In the Hereafter
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will not speak to nor look at nor purify three types of people: an old man who commits Zina, a lying king and a vainglorious poor person….”
The Prophet said: “We went on and arrived near a pit which was like and oven, out of which we could hear cries. We glanced into it and naked men and women, who cried out when the flames reached them from below. I asked: ‘Who are these, O Gabriel?’ He replied, ‘Males and females who have committed fornication.’” [Bukhari]
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “If someone commits Zina with a married women, in the grave there will be a punishment on him and on her equal to half the punishment of this Ummah….”
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The man who has laid his hand with lust on a woman who is not permissible to him will come on the Day of Judgment with his hand tied to his neck. If he kissed her, his lips will be cut in the Fire, and if he had sexual intercourse with her, his private parts will speak against him in the Day of Judgment saying: ‘I did what was forbidden.’ Allah Most High will look at him with anger, and the flesh on his face will sag and he will look haggard and old. He will say: ‘What did I do?’ His tongue will witness against him saying, ‘I said what was forbidden’; his hands will speak and say, ‘We reached for what was forbidden’; each of his feet will say. ‘I went to a forbidden place.’; and his private parts will say, ‘I did it.’ An one of the guardian angels will say, ‘I heard it.’ and the other guardian angel will say, ‘I wrote it,’ and Allah Most High will say, ‘I knew it but I concealed it.’ Then He will say ‘My angels, take him and give him a taste of My punishment. Great is My anger against the man who had so little shame towards Me!’”
Why Mike Tyson Chose Islam?
Our television sets continue to associate Muslims with terrorism. This we can see anywhere from the latest blockbuster films to the international news. However, we now notice a different “muslim” personality in the media- Mike Tyson.
Before going to prison, Mike Tyson was a man to be reckoned with. His competitors feared to meet him in the boxing ring. Having suh power and wealth, he thought that he could rule his world around him. He was overwhelmed with pride and arrogance. Usually, after he had demolished his opponent in the after-fight interviews he would be bursting with so much pride that his every other word would be coarse language.
Tyson’s way of life was based on indulging in superficial and short lived sensations. Even with all his physical might and great wealth, there was a void inside of him thirsting to be filled. In prison, Tyson, learned the reality of a Muslim way of life. He learned, mainly through a man by the name of Muhammad Siddiqui, the great qualities of this way of life. He learned how Muslims treated all races as equal throughout the ages, and how God gave women their rights in Islam long before women in North America fought for their rights. What turned Tyson’s entire life around was the Qur’an. The book pried through his huge ego and touched his soul. It taught him humility and patience in life. He became consistently humble towards others, and prioritized the needs of those less fortunate than him. Now, when slander or criticism flies in his face, he responds with noble speech. This is all due to Tyson’s marvellous realization that the Qur’an can be from none other than Allah. After he realized this, Tyson decided that the greatest priority in life is to live by the law of the Creator. Tyson’s choice to accept Islam typifies his confidence. He is well acquainted with the world of the heart and soul. Such a world is large enough to engulf the entire physical world in which we live and drown it like a pebble in an ocean.
You may wonder: Why does a man with such wealth and power turn to a religion such as Islam?
This question comes up only because of the poor image the media has given to Islam. After all, does the dia ever cast light on the remarkable features of Islam? The source and nucleus of Islam is the Qur’an, which touches the heart to bring out the most positive qualities in human beings, whether they be exceedingly rich, poor, or somewhere in between. As you read the Qur’an you may feel as if the author is point out your flaws in life and instructing you how to correct them. The Qur’an’s guidance for humanity is inexhaustible. It is the only authentic revelation; it neither contradicts itself nor does it contradict modern knowledge. This is why many people choose Islam after reading the Qur’an. Islam is the fastest growing religion today, according to the Junior Encyclopedia of Canada.
According to some sources people say that he is not really a muslim, but who are we to say? Who are we to judge? We do not know the intention we cannot assume or be suspicious as stated in the Qur’an 49:12 not to be suspicious of one another nor backbite. We should leave it between God and that person alone and Allah Alam. God knows Best.
Why are non-Muslims not allowed in Makkah & Madinah?
Why are non-Muslims not allowed in the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah?
It is true that non-Muslims are not allowed in the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah, by law. The following points will serve to elucidate the possible reasoning behind such a restriction.
1. All citizens are not permitted in the cantonment area
I am a citizen of India. Yet, I am not permitted to enter certain restricted areas like the cantonment. In every country there are certain areas where a common citizen of that country cannot enter. Only a citizen who is enrolled in the military or those who are connected with the defence of the country are allowed in the cantonment area. Similarly Islam is a Universal Religion for the entire world and for all human beings. The cantonment areas of Islam are the two holy cites of Makkah and Madinah. Here only those who believe in Islam and are involved in the defence of Islam i.e. the Muslims are allowed.
It would be illogical for a common citizen to object against the restriction on entering a cantonment area. Similarly it is not appropriate for non-Muslims to object against the restriction on non-Muslims against entering Makkah and Madinah.
2. Visa to enter Makkah and Madinah
a. Whenever a person travels to a foreign country he has to first apply for a visa i.e. the permission to enter that country. Every country has its own rules, regulations and requirements for issuing a visa. Unless their critera are satisfied they will not issue a visa.
b. One of the countries which is very strict in issuing a visa is the United States of America, especially when issuing visas to citizens of the third world. They have several conditions and requirements to be fulfilled before they issue a visa.
c. When I visited Singapore, it was mentioned on their immigration form – death to drug traffickers. If I want to visit Singapore I have to abide by the rules. I cannot say that death penalty is a barbaric punishment. Only if I agree with their requirements and conditions will I be permitted to enter the country.
d. The Visa – The primary condition required for any human being to enter Makkah or Madina is to say with his lips, La ila ha illallah Muhammed ur Rasulullahmeaning that ‘there is no God but Allah and Muhammed (pbuh) is His Messenger.’

Do Muslim worship the Kaaba?
When Islam is against idol worship why do the Muslims worship, and bow down to the Kaaba in their prayer?
It is a common misconception of non Muslim brothers.
Answer:
Kaaba is the Qibla i.e. the direction Muslims face during their prayers. It is important to note that though Muslims face the Kaaba during prayers, they do not worship the Kaaba. Muslims worship and bow to none but Allah.
It is mentioned in Surah Baqarah:
“We see the turning of thy face (for guidance) to the heavens: now shall We turn thee to a Qiblah that shall please thee. Turn then thy face in the direction of the Sacred Mosque: wherever ye are, turn your faces in that direction.”
[Al-Qur’an 2:144]
1. Islam believes in fostering unity
For instance, if Muslims want to offer Salaah (Prayer), it is possible that some may wish to face north, while some may wish to face south. In order to unite Muslims in their worship of the One True God, Muslims, wherever they may be, are asked to face in only one direction i.e. towards the Kaaba. If some Muslims live towards the west of the Kaaba they face the east. Similarly if they live towards the east of the Kaaba they face the west.
2. Kaaba is at the Centre of the World Map
The Muslims were the first people to draw the map of the world. They drew the map with the south facing upwards and north downwards. The Kaaba was at the centre. Later, western cartographers drew the map upside down with the north facing upwards and south downwards. Yet, Alhamdullilah the Kaaba is at the centre of the world map.
3. Tawaaf around Kaaba for indicating one God
When the Muslims go to Masjid-e-Haram in Makkah, they perform tawaaf or circumambulation round the Kaaba. This act symbolizes the belief and worship of One God, since, just as every circle has one centre, so also there is only one Allah (swt) worthy of worship.
4. Hadith of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him)
Regarding the black stone, hajr-e-aswad, there is a hadith (tradition), attributed to the illustrious companion of the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh), Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).
According to Sahih Bukhari, Volume 2, book of Hajj, chapter 56, H.No. 675. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “I know that you are a stone and can neither benefit nor harm. Had I not seen the Prophet (pbuh) touching (and kissing) you, I would never have touched (and kissed) you”.
5. People stood on Kaaba and gave the adhaan
At the time of the Prophet, people even stood on the Kaaba and gave the ‘adhaan’ or the call to prayer.
One may ask those who allege that Muslims worship the Kaaba; which idol worshipper stands on the idol he worships?
