‘Aqeedah’ Comes First! – Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan

WHY MUST ’AQEEDAH COME FIRSTThe first, main, and primary foundation of the Call to Allaah, and why this is the case.

The ’aqeedah must come first because the only real cause for the differing and destruction that has come upon our Islaamic world is the purified ’aqeedah.  Allaah – the Most High.

The ’aqeedah (creed) must come first because it is the foundation of the da’wah (call) of the Prophets as Allaah the Exalted said upon the tongue of every Prophet He sent to his people: “O people! Worship Allaah, you do not have a deity other than Him.” [Soorah Hood 11:84]

The ’aqeedah (creed) must come first because it is the decisive partition between abiding in the Fire (forever) and being saved from it. Have you not heard the statement of Allaah – Sublime is His Affair – :

“Verily Allaah does not forgive that shirk (association) be made with Him, and He forgives whatever is less than that for whomever He wishes. And whoever commits shirk with Allaah, then he has indeed perpetrated a great sin.” [Sooratun-Nisaa‘ 4:48]

Shirk is the greatest of those things which negate Tawheed, which is the basis for the correctness of the correct ’aqeedah.

The ’aqeedah must come first because shirk with Allaah is the greatest form of oppression as Allaah the Exalted says: “Verily Shirk is indeed a great transgression.” [Soorah Luqmaan 31:13]

The ’aqeedah must come first because the only real cause for the differing and destruction that has come upon our Islaamic world is the purified ’aqeedah.

So indeed the creed of many of the Muslims today has become corrupted by matters of greater shirk from making tawaaf (encircling) the graves, and seeking help from the dead people inside of them, and trying to fulfill ones needs and affairs from them. So they return to the first jaahiliyyah (pre-Islaamic times of ignorance), and it is as if they have not heard the statement of Allaah the Exalted:

‘‘Verily those whom you call upon besides Allaah do not hear your calls. And if they were able to hear you, then they would not be able to answer you. And upon the Day of Judgement, they will disown your worship of them, and there is none like He who is the All-Knower.” [Sooratul-Faatir 14]

And we prohibit you from the innovations of the Soofiyyah which many of the common folk of the Muslims have erected to (such) an educational level that whole countries have institutionalized these innovations, such as the celebration of the Birthday of the Prophet (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

And (innovations such as) accompanying the Christians in their festivals, not to mention the deviations in dealings and manners and other than that from that which separates their countries from the Book and the authenticated Sunnah, with the permission of Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic.

And after this beloved brother of mine we have shown the truth of our statement that the ’aqeedah must come first.

EXCLUSIVE: Support and Pray for Muslims in Gaza

As-salam ‘alaykum wa rehmatullaah dear muslim brothers and sisters,

May Allaah reward each and every person who wrote whatever he/she could against the Tyrant Israel and its supporters. May Allaah bless every person who informed fellow Muslims about the condition of Muslims in Gaza.

Our Muslim brothers in Gaza are being tortured and killed by the enemies of Allah. They are undergoing all sorts of torture and oppression. It is our duty to support them by all possible means including money, power, and Prayers to Allah for them. In this way, we will be acting upon the Saying of Allah,

The believers are nothing else than brothers (in Islamic religion). (Qur’aan 49:10)

You are also following the saying of Allah (Glorified be He):

Help you one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression. And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Severe in punishment. (Qur’aan 5:2)

The Prophet (may Allah’s Peace and Blessings be upon him) also says:

A believer to another believer is like a wall of bricks supporting each other. [ Illustrating this, the Prophet (Peace be upon him) then interlaced his fingers together.]  (Al-Bukhari no. 2446; Muslim no. 2585)

Also he (peace be upon him) said:

The similitude of believers in regard to mutual love, affection, and empathy is that of one body; when any limb of it aches, the whole body aches, because of sleeplessness and fever. (Al-Bukhari no. 6011; Muslim no. 2586).

Also it is authentically reported that the Prophet (Peace be upon him) enjoined the believers to stand up for the oppressed by his Saying:

A Muslim is the brother of a fellow-Muslim. He should neither commit oppression upon him nor give him up to an enemy. (Al-Bukhari no. 2442; Muslim no. 2580)

Since Allah makes it obligatory upon all Muslims to support their Muslim brothers against the enemies of Allah, our Muslim brothers in Gaza are struggling against the Zionists and others of the enemies of Allah. Therefore, it is obligatory upon Muslims to support them as much as they can.

Allah is One whom we implore to guide all Muslim rulers and individuals to do everything to stop these atrocities of tyrant Zionists, to make His religion triumphant through them, to discourage His enemies, to help Muslims support their oppressed brothers everywhere.

May Allah help our brothers in Gaza and in other countries, do whatever pleases Him. May He grant them sound understanding of Islam, unite them in doing good, make those who lead them the best among them, set their leaders right and decree their triumph over His enemies!

Allah is truly Capable of doing so. Team

EXCLUSIVE: The situation of the Muslims in Palestine

I was wondering what you believe the fight taking place in the Holy Land is all about and what the end result might be.

Praise be to Allaah.

Undoubtedly what is happening to the Muslims in the Holy Land of hardship, torture, expulsion, killing and harm is a matter which causes sorrow to every Muslim, and indeed to every non-Muslim who is reasonable, fair-minded and compassionate, when they see the blatant persecution inflicted upon innocent people, with the intention of driving them out of their homes so that the enemy can take their place, which is an enemy that possesses the most advanced weapons, with which they attack unarmed people who are deprived of the means of defending themselves.

This Muslim people has endured for more than fifty years, facing unending Zionist arrogance and aggression, which pays no heed to human dignity or any covenant or treaty, or any law, except that to which their own whims and desires make them inclined and in which their evil rabbis and warlords encourage them.

The outcome of that is well known to Muslims as well as Jews, which is that the consequences will be in favour of the pious and the party of God will be the victors. The wrongdoer will never enjoy security, stability and prosperity, rather he will be faced with fear, anxiety, grief and shame, until the day comes when the Muslims come back to their religion and are governed by the sharee’ah of their Lord, then they will meet the Jews in battle, where the two sides will face one another, and victory will go to the people of faith.

Al-Bukhaari (2926) and Muslim (2922) narrated from Abu Hurayrah (radiyAllaahu ‘anhu) that the Messenger of Allaah SallAllaahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The Hour will not begin until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them, until a Jew will be hiding behind a rock or a tree, and the rock or tree will say, ‘O Muslim, O slave of Allaah, here is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!’ except for the box-thorn (al-gharqad), for it is one of the trees of the Jews.”

We ask Allaah to hasten the Muslims’ return to their religion and to grant them the means of victory. May He grant us the joy of seeing His religion prevail and His enemies humiliated, and may He raise the status of those who are persecuted, tortured or killed for His sake.

And Allaah knows best.

Just Moments Away

By: Mariam Anwer  [ Exclusive Writer]

Sitting outside in the courtyard of al Masjid al Haraam in Makkah, I look on at the hustle and bustle of people coming out of the Masjid peaceful and satisfied, after the short but serene meeting with their Creator in Isha Prayer. As I move my lips slowly in zhikr, I notice a sudden disturbance in the normally walking crowd of worshippers…I look again to find out three funeral processions rushing toward the road…I scan the covered, lifeless bodies on the stretchers being carried — and my heart fills with dread and fear — as I wonder:

” How long before I am the one being carried like that?!!”

I feel my mind travelling back, down memory lane… to another scene from another place...

We were all gathered in her room.., we all saw her fingers and toes slowly turning a slight hue of blue. I felt my gaze moving toward her face and I noticed her eyes staring into mine for a second and then at the others present in the room. I tried talking to her but all she did was stare at us and at times into space – Suddenly, at the continuous insistence of my mother she uttered the testimony of faith and stared straight ahead — her eyes expressionless and blank! The loud, alarmed cries around me make me realize that she was no more and that she had passed away peacefully to the next world!

My dear nani, may Allah [subhanahu wa taála] forgive her and bless her with Al Firdaws. The scene of her peaceful death that I witnessed five years ago still lies fresh in my mind and I feel my skin shiver and my eyes well up, every time I remember that day.., every time I remember those eyes that were staring ahead watching and feeling things that we could not! I remember how I helped in washing her lifeless body and how we wrapped her in three pieces of plain white cloth!!The way we covered up her face and tied a knot at the head never to see her again in the life of this world!

I remember and I feel hot tears flow down my cheeks. I think about her lifeless body being washed by others and I wonder:

‘Is it long before I would be the one lying there being washed by others?’

My grandmother was blessed, Masha Allah, she lived to be 84 years and got to see her great grandchildren! But is everyone as fortunate as she was…?

Do we feel certain that we would live to be 80? Do we feel secure and safe from death which can pounce on us any given moment? Have we prepared for this ‘destroyer of worldly pleasures’? What if today is our last day…what if we die today…would we like to meet our Lord as we are…loaded with sins??

Remember when the teacher used to come take our exam papers and we used to plead,

“mam…one minute more, please!! Please…!”

That is how it is going to be…..EVEN WORSE!!!! =\

Allah [subhanahu wa taála] says;

“Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained [his desire]. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion.“ [3:185]

Every time I remember my grandmother’s death I wonder about the infinite blessings of Allah that we seem to be taking for granted. We seem to be wasting away the precious moments of our precious lives in trivial worldly pursuits with no fear of what lies ahead of us – our final meeting with Allah.

The Messenger of Allah [sallallahu alyhi wasallam] said,

“Make the most of five things before five others: life before death, health before sickness, free time before becoming busy, youth before old age, and wealth before poverty.” [Saheeh al-Jaami’]

Have we ever thought about these continuous favours and blessings of Allah that keep descending to us…He gives and gives and all that ascends up to Him is our ungratefulness and disobedience. He [subhanahu wa taála] is in no need of us – small insignificant sinning beings that we are! Yet if we are thankful for His innumerable favours and obedient to His commands it is our own selves that we benefit. But do we really realize this fact..?

We seem to be totally lost in the zest and glitter of this life.., the idea of obeying, pleasing and thanking Allah at some small corner of our minds. Have we ever pondered on the verse where Allah says,

“Whatever you have will end, but what Allah has is lasting. And We will surely give those who were patient their reward according to the best of what they used to do.” [An Nahl 96]

“Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer – We will surely cause him to live a good life, and We will surely give them their reward [in the Hereafter] according to the best of what they used to do.”  [An Nahl 97]

SubhanAllah! What more do we need? Allah gives us clear indications in His Book ofthe result of obeying Him…but do we still hesitate to do so?

Allah – as-Saboor, al Haleem…the One who overlooks and forgives our sins and shortcomings and keeps on giving us chances to improve, mend ourselves, repent and turn back to Him with good deeds! But are we really benefitting from these opportunities given by Allah? Rather, being foolish sinful beings, we play games with Allah – the Lord of all that exists. We accept and follow some of His rules and reject some…all the while giving petty excuses or refusing completely or delaying obedience to the commands of Allah…often occupied with sins and wrongdoings…”

Let us note what Allah says to such people in His Noble Quran;

“Do the disbelievers await [anything] except that the angels should come to them or there comes the command of your Lord? Thus did those do before them. And Allah wronged them not, but they had been wronging themselves. So they were struck by the evil consequences of what they did and were enveloped by what they used to ridicule.” [An Nahl 33-34]

“And the intoxication of death will bring the truth; that is what you were trying to avoid.” [50:19]

Ibn Umar said: Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu alyhi wasallam) took me by my shoulder and said:

“Be in this life as if you were a stranger or a traveler on a path and If you reach the evening then do not expect to reach the morning, and if you reach the morning then do not expect to reach the evening. Take from your health before your sickness, and from your life before your death.”  [Reported by al-Bukhârî]

We have been neglecting the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet for quite some time now…and the results are quite obvious!!

Let us take a look around us…let us just note the continuous disruption and unrest in the World today.., the crazy bombings/suicide attacks, the sudden major catastrophes in the form of earthquakes, floods, heavy rains and dangerous infectious diseases!!!

Let us just witness how we are bringing harm and destruction on ourselves! We read, we observe, we witness the numerous signs and warnings given by Allah – but again, we forget and we ignore!!

Our lives are just like the flames of the candles…the years melting away just like the wax… but are we aware of that?? Nope… we actually celebrate as we lose each year!!!! SubhanAllah…how foolish can we get?! We busy ourselves in arguing if celebrating birthdays OR listening to music is Forbidden or Just Biddah…instead of simply learning from the life of the best of men [sallallahu alayhi wasallam] and following him and his companions!!

We are simply wasting away the precious years of our lives and are really proud in doing so!!!

We know about the obligation of Prayer on time, we ignore…We know about its importance and reward in congregation…BUT…we are too lazy to walk to the nearest masjid!! We are commanded to be

dutiful to our parents but we mistreat them…A friend tells us about major sins like ‘Dealing in Interest/Ribaa, bribery, plucking eyebrows but we pretend like we never heard!!

We know Hijab is a must – a MUST on all Muslim women, but all we say is ‘Insha Allah soon!’ But what if that ‘soon’ never comes…what if we never get to witness the next minute…

What if the punishment of Allah strikes us while we are in a state of disobedience and ungratefulness?

“Do then those who devise evil plots feel secure that Allah will not sink them into the earth, or that the torment will not seize them from directions they perceive not? Or that He may catch them in the midst of their going to and fro (in their jobs), so that there be no escape for them (from Allah’s punishment)? Or that He may catch them with gradual wasting (of their wealth and health). Truly! Your Lord is indeed full of Kindness, Most Merciful.”  [An Nahl 45-47]

What if the angel of death arrives when we are busy disobeying Allah?

“And the intoxication of death will bring the truth; that is what you were trying to avoid.” [50:19]

A wise person once said,

“The people are sleeping and they wake up only when they DIE.”

Indeed we are too arrogant, too proud to increase in fear of Him and in obedience to Him! We might often have witnessed mothers scolding and punishing their naughty disobedient children. They warn once or twice and then they punish! Right?

But what about Allah [subhanahu wa taála]? The Most Merciful says in His Noble Book,

“And if Allah were to punish the people for what they have earned, He would not leave upon the earth any creature; but He gives them respite for a specified term. And when their time comes, then indeed Allah has ever been, of His servants, Seeing.” [Surah al Fatir 45]

Unlike Humans, He [subhanahu wa taála] gives us respite and infinite oppurtunities to remember and turn back to Him in sincere repentance and obedience! Let us just stop procrastinating and become of those who respond to each and every command of Allah saying “We hear and we obey!”

It may look difficult when we think of it especially when we think of what our family and friends might say…but then it is not that hard…we just supplicate to ALLAH for strength and guidance…start with it…Insha Allah there will be no regrets!! Do we think that we will have regrets after following Allah’s orders…??

“If Allah should aid you, no one can overcome you; but if He should forsake you, who is there that can aid you after Him? And upon Allah let the believers rely.” [Surah ale Imran 160]

Let us just SUBMIT to ALLAH wholeheartedly…, act on His orders and avoid His prohibitions! Let us just LIVE for Allah and watch how our life will be filled with happiness & success. Let us just ignore what the rude and ignorant people say…Let us just Take ALLAH as our friend…and He sure is the best of friends!

I conclude with the Hadeeth of our beloved Prophet [sallallahu alyhi wasallam] which gives me goose bumps every time I read it..

“Allah will let the wrongdoer continue until when He begins to punish him, He will never  him go.”

Then He [sallallahu alyhi wasallam] recited,

” Such is the Seizure of your Lord when He seizes the (population of) the towns while they are doing wrong. Verily, His Seizure is painful, (and) severe.” [Surah Hud 102]

May Allah Taála guide us and help us act on His guidance…

before it gets too late…

May He protect us from His Anger, His punishment and the Fire of Hell….

And May He forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds,

and cause us to die with the righteous!!
