Asking the people money for the purpose of Da’wah : Shaikh Rabee ibn Haadee Al Madhkhali

It was asked to  Shaikh Rabee ibn Haadee Al Madhkhali : Our Shaikh Muqbil founded the da’wah salafiyyah here in Yemen based upon self sufficiency and he authored a book titled “The blameworthiness of asking”.
Our question is: Some of the callers sometimes ask the people money for the purpose of Da’wah. So what is the criteria in asking from people for the purpose of da’wah?

The Shaikh answered:

fitna-in-arabicIn any case, May Allah have Mercy upon Shaikh Muqbil and I ask Allah to succeed him with good in Yemen and other than Yemen. For verily this person, may Allah have Mercy on him, reminds us of the asceticism of the salaf, their abstinence, their honour and rank, their refusal (to accept monies from the people) and their courage in speaking a statement of truth. And the Da’wah salafiyyah was elevated and spread in Yemen and (people) were cured by it and (he) left for them great goodness. We ask Allah to bless his students and to bring forth from them many like him (Shaikh Muqbil);  for verily, by Allah, he was an model in piety and abstinence and refusal of worldly matters. And he was given insight (by Allah) when he used to refuse money and warned against asking people. And I am reminded that he used to launch a fierce attack on anyone who collected money in his (Shaikh Muqbil’s) name. So he used to not compromise in this matter, May Allah bless him.  And is NOT a necessity to approach people asking them in the name of da’wah; the salaf never did that. And Ahmad ibn Hanbal rahimahullah, did he stretch out his hand asking the people for the purpose of da’wah? He used to refuse money – and he is cited as a model of abstinence in his refusal and dignity when he traveled to Abdur Razzaaq from Iraq to San’aa. On the way, he and his companion, Yahya ibn Ma’een, performed Hajj and found Abdur Razzaaq in Makkah. So ibn Ma’een said to Ahmad: “Here is Abdur Razzaaq. Allah has brought him to us so we do not need to travel.” Ahmad replied: “I have made the intention to travel to San’aa so I will not return.” Then he traveled to Sanaa and on the way he ran out of money. When his companions found out, they offered him monetary assistance. But Imam Ahmad refused and instead opted to work as a porter for the bedouin camel owners, carrying loads on his back – and he was an Imam rahimahullah. He saw that porterage, work and eating from the sweat of ones own hands was better by thousands of times than taking money from the people; because the upper hand is the one that gives and the lower hand is the one that receives. And Ahmad did not want his hand to be the lower one, may Allah be pleased with him. So I advise the scholars and the students of knowledge to return towards the biographies of the nobility of the salaf, and let them be aware that eagerness to seek money is from the most dangerous of dangers upon the Da’wah Salafiyyah. And the proof of that is that the current fitnah was sparked because of money when, may Allah bless you, some people started stretching their hands out to this Jam’iyyah and that Jam’iyyah (charity organization). So week refuge with Allah from the fitnah of money. Verily it is fitnah, by Allah. And by Allah, it is but a very small number of students who come out of the masjid and are self sufficient, noble and honoured. And (these) are better than millions and millions of those ‘students of money’ and those destroyed by the dunya (worldly matters). So we advise the salafi youth and the scholars from amongst them to return towards the biographies of the salaf. As they (the salaf) raised the banner of the sunnah, so to they also raised the banner of honour, nobility, asceticism, abstinence and the dislike of chasing after the dunya. By Allah, nothing has harmed the Da’wah Salafiyyah in Yemen more than the exposure of money and the panting after it and it has given rise to this fitnah now.

And money is a strong arrow in igniting the fire of trials. Unless there is repentance to Allah and returning to Allah and brotherhood for the sake of Allah. We advise them with calling one another to the truth and calling one another to patience in every difficulty of life. {And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to the patient ones} (Al Baqarah:155). And by Allah, verily the salaf did not bring this da’wah to us by way of tender, soft money and vessels. But they brought it to us by their asceticism, abstinence and turning away (from wealth), may Allah be pleased with them. So we advise the salafees in every place and in Yemen especially – that Yemen which Allah has raised in it the banner of the Sunnah: That they guard this da’wah; and if money was to come to them, then it will spoil that which is between them so it is upon them to kick it away with their legs. And they should traverse upon their path honoured and enobled spreading the noble, clean da’wah of Allah.

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen’s Tazkiyah For Shaykh Rabee’ and Explanation of the Reason Why the Hizbiyyoon Attack Him

Statement 1
Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah) said, “Indeed we praise Allaah, Free is He from all imperfections, the Most High, that He makes it easy for our brother, the Doctor, Rabee’ bin Haadee al-Madkhalee to visit this region. [So that] the one to whom certain matters are not apparent may come to know that our brother, may Allaah grant us and him success, is upon Salafiyyah, the way of the Salaf. And I do not mean here that Salafiyyah is a hizb (party) which is set up to oppose the Muslims outside of it, but I mean by Salafiyyah, that he (i.e. Shaikh Rabee’) is upon the path of the Salaf in his Manhaj. Especially in the field of actualising Tawheed and throwing aside what opposes this [manhaj]. And all of us know tht Tawheed is the basis for which Allaah sent the Messengers upon them be peace and prayers…

The visit of our brother, Shaikh Rabee bin Haadee to this region, our city, Unaizah, no doubt will have a good effect and it will also become clear to many of the people what used to be hidden from them due to the scare-mongering and rumour-mongering and also letting loose the tongue [of discord]. And how numerous are those who are remorseful about what they said concerning the Ulamaa, when it becomes clear to them that they (the Ulamaa) are upon the truth.”

Then one of those present at the gathering says, “There is a question concerning the books of Shaikh Rabee’?”

To which the Shaik replied, “It is apparently clear that this question is not in need of my answer. And just as Imaam Ahmad was asked about Ishaaq bin Raahawaih – rahimahumullaah – and he replied, “Someone like me is asked about Ishaaq! Rather, Ishaaq is to be asked about me.” And I spoke at the beginning of my speech about that which I know about Shaikh Rabee’, may Allaah grant him success, and what I mentioned has never ceased to be what I hold about him in my soul, up until this time. And his arrival here and his words that have reached me, then no doubt, they are such that they will increase a person in his love for him and in his supplication for him.” End of quote.
(Cassette: “Ittihaaf al-Kurraam Bi Liqaa al-Uthaimeen Ma’a Rabee al-Madhkhalee wa Muhammad al-Imaam”)

Benefits:
1) Shaykh Rabee’s manhaj is good and strong, and he is upon Salafiyyah

2) That Shaykh Rabee’s presence will have a good effect in Unayzah, especially when the people realise the falsehood of the rumour mongering and lies that have been spread about him

3) The Shaykh implying that he should not be asked about Shaykh Rabee’ but it should be the other way around, by the narration he quotes from Ahmad, and in this is a mighty tazkiyah for Shaykh Rabee’ similar to the one given to him by Shaykh al-Albaani that he is “the carrier of the flag of al-Jarh wat-Ta’deel”

4) The words of Shaykh Rabee’ that have reached Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen are such that they will increase a person in love for Shaykh Rabee’, and that Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen has not ceased to have the viewpoint about the Shaykh that he has outlined above

5) O Hizbiyyoon, die in your rage and perish in your warm fuzzies!

Statement 2
Questioner: “What is your advice concerning the one who forbids the cassettes of Shaikh Rabee’ bin Haadee [from being distributed] with the claim that they cause fitnah and that they contain praise of the Wullaat ul-Umoor of the Kingdom, and that his praise of them emanates from nifaaq (hypocrisy)?”

Shaikh Ibn Uthaimeen’s replied: “We consider this to be a great error and mistake. Shaikh Rabee’ is from the Ulamaa of the Sunnah, and from the people of goodness. His aqidah is sound and his manhaj is strong and sound. However, when he began to speak about some of the symbolic figureheads of some of the people, from amongst the latecomers [i.e. Sayyid Qutb, Banna et. al.] they began to tarnish him with these faults”. (From the three cassette series, “Kashf ul-Lathaam An Ahmad Sallaam”, dated July 2000)

Benefit:
Allaahu Akbar! Who else would have been better to explain to the Qutubiyyoon and Hizbiyyoon, the real reason for their enmity, hatred, lies, slanders, vilifications, derogation, tabdee’ and also takfeer of Shaykh Rabee’, merely because he refuted the figureheads of their deviant da’wah.

Statement 3
Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen also said, “My study of the book of Sayyid Qutb has only been scant, and I do not know about his condition; however the scholars have written about his book in tafseer ‘Fee Zilaalil Qur’aan’ – they have written critical comments about it: such as what Shaikh ‘Abdullaah ad-Duwaysh – rahimahullaah – wrote, and our brother Shaikh Rabee’ al-Madkhalee wrote some points of criticism upon him – upon Sayyid Qutb with regards to his tafseer and other things. So whoever wishes to refer to that then let him do so.” (A lecture entitled ‘Liqaa ma-‘ash – Shaikhain: Muhammad ibn ‘Uthaimain & Rabee’ al-Madkhalee’

[A Meeting with the Two Shaykhs, Ibn Uthaimeen and Rabee al-Madkhalee] in Jeddah, on 20/11/1413H)

‘Voting is NOT from the Issues of Ijtihaad’

Ash-Shaykh Rabee’ Bin Hadee (may Allah preserve him) said in his refutation (Tanbeeh al-Maghroor Ilaa maa fee Maqaal Abil Hasan Wa Manhajhi Min ad-Dalaal Wa ash-shuroor) against Abul-Hasan Al-Ma’ribee:

‘I say that it is not permissible to say (concerning) the issue of voting (that): ‘it is an issue of Ijtihaad’, rather it is from the issues of misguidance, and it is one of the pillars of the Kaafir-based Democracy and from the affairs that the Jews and the Christians have invented.

Indeed the messenger of Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam severely dispraised following them, he said: “Surely, you will follow the ways of those nations who were before you, in everything as one arrow resembles another, (i.e. just like them), so much so that even if they entered a hole of a sand-lizard, you would enter it” They said, “O Allah’s Messenger! Do you mean to say that we will follow the Jews and the Christians?” He replied, “Whom else?” (Meaning – of course the Jews and the Christians). Reported by al-Bukhari in his Saheeh 3456 and Muslim in his Saheeh 2669.

And the messenger of Allah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: “Indeed the best speech is the speech of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad, and the worst of matters are those newly invented (by the people) and every Bid’ah is a misguidance”. Reported by Muslim in his Saheeh (867) and Ahmad in his Musnad (3/371).

And he Salallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam said: “For verily he who lives long among you will see many differences. So I order you to stick to my Sunnah and the way of the rightly guided successors after me. Bite onto that with your molar teeth and beware of the newly invented matters, for verily every innovation is misguidance”.

And the people of democracy based voting are from the severest of people that turn away from the Sunnah of the messenger of Allah – Salallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam and his rightly guided successors. Likewise voting has great (great deal of) harm (within it) which cannot be enumerated. Some books have been authored concerning it, (indeed) Allah warns from corruption, and surely this methodology of yours (Oh Abul-Hasan); which places issues of misguidance and Bid’ah as issues of Ijtihaad, and likewise the taking (of this affair) to be something light will leave the door wide open for (them to) make (and consider) the misguidance of the Rawaafid, the Khawaarij and the grave worshipers as issues of Ijtihaad.

2) As for your statement (Oh Abul-Hasan):

‘As for these issues then differing has occurred before, between the leaders of the Salafiyeen about them, the Salafi’s in Kuwait saw (the permissibility) to vote and we were in Yemen and we didn’t see (the permissibility of) it, and today there are some of us that see the permissibility of it and some that don’t’.

I say: You are the one that sees it (to be permissible) and those that follow you blindly; from those that are upon your Manhaj (methodology).  As for the Salafiyyeen then they do not seize to remain upon their firm Islamic stance.

Indeed al-‘Allaamah al-Albaani refuted the Hizbee – misguided charity organisation; ‘Ihyaa ut-Turaath’ in Kuwait due to its partisanship that caused it to fall into delving into democracy based voting, and indeed it has increased (in evil) since the era of Albaani.’

Reality of Ihyaa Turaath

29ld24z.jpgImaam Muqbil Bin Haadee (rahimahullaah) On Ihyaa Turaath:

‘As for Shaikh Al Albaanee, he freed himself from them long ago and Shaikh Bin Baaz disapproved of them in some affairs.  The hizbiyyoon are deceivers; they approach the virtuous mashaa-yikh of ahlus sunnah , from those who trust them and say: ‘O Shaikh! Indeed a lot of good has been actualized through us, indeed we went to Africa’; when in reality they went to split the unity of the Muslims…..’we went to Pakistan and to such and such, so the Shaikh believes (that).  And indeed he (Shaikh Bin Baaz) has refuted Abdur -Rahmaan Bin Abdul Khaaliq and I am sure that if their [ihyaa turaath’s] affair becomes clear to him, he will free himself from them’ . [Siyaanatus Salafi: page:619-620]

Imaam Albaani (rahimahullaah) said about Ihyaa Turaath: They do not give importance to what is called Tasfiyah Wat-Tarbiyyah [Purification and Cultivation]; their concern is politics, position, elections, parliament and what is similar to that.’ [Siyaanatus Salafi:
page:613]

Shaikh Rabee (hafidha-hullaah) said about Ihyaa Turaath: ‘And due to this, hatred has occurred from them towards the carriers of the Sunnah and the salafi methodology. And they set up those who present their mistakes (i.e. those mistakes of the people of sunnah) which have neither been criticized by a Sunni nor by a person of innovation from amongst those who ascribe themselves to Islaam.  They present these mistakes as mighty affairs of blunder and destruction, rather they make the virtues and merits of ahlus sunnah to be repugnant and disdainful in addition to much fabrication and accusation…… [Bayaan Fasaadul Miyaar–Hiwaar Ma-a Hizbi Mutasattir: page: 5-6]

Ruling on Jam’eeyaat , Da’wah Organizations and Charity Organizations

The Ruling on Jam’eeyaat ,Da’wah Organizations and Charity Organizations:

A fatwa from the noble Imaam, Shaikh Muqbil ibn Haadi al Waadiee

The Shaykh, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Leaving off charity organizations is preferred to its existence because the Prophet (may the Peace and Blessing of Allah be upon him) and his companions were more in need of money compared to us. Rather they were in severe need of money, but in spite of that they did not organize a charity organization. Therefore based upon this, leaving it off is better than its existence. And the best guidance is the guidance of the Messenger of Allah (may the Peace and Blessing of Allah be upon him)

Transcribed from the tape “Al Gaara Sadeeda” Side A of the tape

Ash-Shaykh Saalih al Fawzaan, may Allah preserve him, said:

Splitting and dividing into groups or charity organizations is from that which our religion has prohibited. Our religion has demanded from us that we do not differ nor oppose each other in ideas as because of this differing, the efforts of the dawah go to waste. So it is obligatory upon us to be one group upon the manhaj of Islam and the sunnah of the Messenger (may the Peace and Blessing of Allah be upon him). This is the duty of the Muslims

From:Al Muntaqa from the fatawa of Shaikh Saleh Fawzaan Page 22 Chapter 45

The noble Imaam Shaikh Al-Albaani holds the opinion that is sufficient that the projects of establishing charity organizations is haraam if they deposit their wealth in interest based banks.

Refer: Silsilah Huda wa Noor tape no. 590

Ash-Shaykh Saalih Aali-Shaykh , may Allah preserve him, said:

Verily some groups come together under an organization, they use (some of the) statements of Shaykh Islaam and other than him from the people of knowledge as a proof (for it) , while (in reality) they did not understand ( the speech of those scholars) for verily Shaykhul-Islaam, may Allah have mercy upon him, mentioned organizing but however he did not intend an actual organization, because these organizations are newly invented organizations meaning selecting a leader for a party who is obeyed and those who are under him informs him of that which occurs as (it is performed) for the Ruler (of the Muslims) for his obedience. This is with no doubt not permissible and the speech of Shaykhul-Islaam does not indicate ( the permissibility of this) nor does other than him.

Reference: Sharhu Masaa’il al-Jaahiliyah , tape number five, side B.

Shaikh Rabee’ Ibn Haadi Al Madkhali said when asked about these Da’wah organizations said:

By Allah we say, and every good is in following the Salaf and every evil is in following the Khalaf. For verily the Salaf spread the religion and conquered the Dunya world by co-operating upon righteousness and piety. They used to co-operate by struggling with their wealth and themselves but not in the organizational methods taken from the west.

He, may Allah preserve him, also said:

Then partisanship overcame them and allegiance and disassociation according to their organisation and it is (charity organizations) from the reasons for the splitting of Salafis in many countries.

He, may Allah preserve him, also said:

So I advise the scholars and the students of knowledge to return towards the biographies of the nobility of the salaf, and let them be aware that eagerness to seek money is from the most dangerous of dangers upon the Da’wah Salafiyyah. And the proof of that is that the current fitnah ( of Abil Hasan) was sparked because of money when, may Allah bless you, some people started stretching their hands out to this Jam’iyyah and that Jam’iyyah (charity organization). So we seek refuge with Allah from the fitnah of money…

Question posed to ash-Shaykh Yahyaa al-Hajooree:

In our city there is an Ikhwani who deceives the laypeople and those who are fooled by him in that when they ask about Jam’eeyaat
he says: If Jam’eeyaat were innovations then the microphone and cars are (also) innovations, because they were not present in the time of
the Messenger ?

A: Yes he is one who deceives (covers the truth with falsehood), and otherwise, verily this expression about means consistent with Islamic law (to give da’wah) have foundations, as for Jam’eeyaaat that are present in this time the Prophet never did such a thing (have organizations for da’wah).

Al Kanz Uth Thameen. Vol 5.

http://www.sh-yahia.net/show_books_40.html

Shaikh Yahya Al Hajuuri (may Allah preserve him said) :

My brother in the past were organizations present in the time of the Messenger of Allah and wasn’t it that the rights of people were given to them? As for now these Da’wah Organization come under the newly invented matters let the one who is present give news to the one who is absent. And the one who is angry between us and them is the book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger : “Whomsoever innovates in this matter of our’s then it is unaccepted.”

Ittihaaf Ul Kiraam (30-32)

Some of the Shuyook have mentioned some of the negative points of Charity organizations which are the following:

1: It is not from the ways of the Salaf
2: It is a distraction from seeking knowledge
3: it is a disgrace to oneself by begging
4: Makes one lenient towards having money transactions with interest based banks
5:It is a cause to have Walaa and Baraa for
6: Its contains voting and elections
7: It is a deception to the Da’wah as-Salafiyyah
8:It is a transgression to the wealth (that is to be distributed to) the cause of Allah only
9: It is a cause to resign from speaking the truth and being lenient in opinion
10:It is an imitation of the kufaar
11:It is a means to the division of the Ummah and its splitting
12: Secrecy of the people of innovation

Also Ash-Shaykh al-Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy upon him, clarified that charity organizations are from the ways of the Jews of this time , as found in his book ” Sharh al-Wasitiyyah” page :191.

Also ash-Shaykh Saalih as-Suhaymee , ash-Shaykh Ahmad an-Najmee , Shaykh A’lee Naasir al-Faqeeh and ash-Shaykh Zayd al-Madkalee praised the book ” Jam’atun laa Jam’aat…” by the author, ash-Shaykh Rabee‘ ,which contains of statements that indicate the impermissibility of Charity Organizations and Da’wah Organizations.

Reference: an-Nasr al-A’zeez by ash-Shaykh Rabee’ , print: al-Furqaan.

Ash-Shaykh Yahya Al Hajooree was asked:

Is it permissible for the one who has knowledge of the errors of charity organizations to give them zakat.

The Shaikh answered: He who donates his wealth to charity organizations falls into sin as he is fully aware of the harm (it causes) in splitting the Muslims. By Allah, it divided the salafis in Kuwait; it seperated them in Sudan and it divided them in Yemen. Abul Hassan Al Misree and Abdur Rahman Abdul Khaaliq did not become corrupt except because of charity organizations. And Abdullah As-Sabt, Muhammad Al Mahdi, Abdul Majeed Ar-Raymi, Muhammad Moosa Al Ba’daani, Aqeel Maqtari and the signatories to bara’a adh-dhimah (freedom from responsibility) did not become corrupt except by following the ways of the Dunya and by the fitnah of Charity organizations and the gathering of wealth.
